Wilmerie Jacobs

BSc.Physiotherapy

Wilmerie Jacobs is a Physiotherapist with more than 22 years of experience and a particular interest in sport and orthopaedics. Her priority is the rehabilitation of her patients by managing their sports injuries, preventing, and improving their sports injuries and enhancing their performances and achievements.

Her favourite patients are cyclists, runners and trail runners, as they are a unique group of people. Nothing gives her greater joy than to see the smile on a patient’s face when accomplishing a goal after being injured severely. She describes it as absolutely priceless.

Her passion is rehabilitating feet. She utilizes the PODOSmart system, which is the latest in biomechanical technology. This technology enables her patients to function optimally, whether on the road, athletics track, in nature and the bush, or on a bicycle. Her main focus and purpose are identifying sports injuries and preventing any damage. Her scope of patients that she treats in Hospital mainly consists of orthopaedic patients such as hip and knee replacements, post-surgical procedures and rehabilitation.

Wilmerie is a mother of 2 boys and a keen and active sports and outdoor enthusiast. Her passion for applying her vast skill set to her patients comes from being an enthusiastic sports person herself.

During her grade 10 school year, she consulted a Physiotherapist just before the National Netball Championships. She had severe shin splints and was worried that the injury could result in a stress fracture. She was hooked immediately on what she describes as an incredible profession. She acquired her degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Pretoria in 2000 after matriculating from the Afrikaans Hoërskool in Kroonstad.

She worked as a Physiotherapist in Potchefstroom after her graduation. She moved to Bloemfontein 11 years ago joining the practice Tri Physios in 2011. In 2016 she established her private practice.

On a personal level, Wilmerie finished in the 6th place of the female cycle teams in the Cape Epic in 2013 and 2nd at the SA Road Cycling Championships in 2014.

Wilmerie is involved with the treatment of several well-known sportspersons who represent SA Protea Cricket, SA Cycling, Springbok Rugby and Trail Running. Numerous national athletes and champions benefited greatly from her expertise. She wishes physiotherapy was more accessible to everyone, especially in high schools and screening programs, where risk athletes could be identified sooner. She is involved with Jim Fouché High School and assists with all sports injuries. She works independently from the school, submitting claims to the different medical schemes.

Inspiration for Wilmerie came from Tim Noakes and Zola Budd. Both are icons which have an immense passion for their professions. All patients are welcome, but she particularly enjoys working with sports and orthopaedic patients.

“Global and balanced approach to healing.” – Wilmerie Jacobs
